"With knowledge comes success" LearnToGarden.net
Learn to grow beautiful hybrid tea roses, old garden roses, perennials and more!
Welcome to our garden . . .

My name is Waco Bankston and I've been gardening since I was a little boy. The only difference now versus then is that I'm a little more educated in the practice of gardening and how to be successful in doing so. Growing up with my grandparents I learned the value of hard work. My grandmother's frequent quote that "anything worth doing is worth doing well" stuck with me and is the basis of anything I do. As with most things in gardening there will certainly be days when you aren't pleased with the results of your hard work, but with a little tenacity and education the good days will far exceed the bad.
Now I'm married and have a son, and both of them love to help in the lawn and landscape. Most afternoons you'll find us piddling around in the garden trimming spent flowers, fertilizing, watering, etc. The rewards we reap are priceless. I hope you find the information provided here to be of use to you and your family.
Now it's time for you to sit back, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy yourself while we approach subjects including:

Why a perennial or savage garden? Why roses?
There is just something about a perennial garden that is wild and unpolished that is very attractive to me. A savage garden is defined in part as having wild aspects and I like that look. I like the look of one plant falling over and devouring the one beneath it. It's survival of the fittest . . . a type of savage garden if you will. Then, there are the roses. They help foster the more formal, calming balance that attempts to offset the wild aspects of plant growth.
Why should you learn to garden?
Gardening has been around since the beginning of time or at least the beginning of time as we know it. Learning to garden is a type of therapy and can even strengthen your family. Here you'll learn of the various types of flowers, their nature and what they do and don't like. I hope that you find the garden journal, a type of flower guide, helpful in your learning adventure.
Some of the benefits of gardening include:
- Helps improve environmental quality
- Increases property values
- Strengthens individuals
- Builds communities
- Helps with depression (studies confirm)
- Helps relieve anxiety
- Individual exercise
- many many more!
