This is undeniably the most beautiful time of the year for Carolina gardeners. Here are some of my favorite spring garden events to feed our passion!

Tony Avent’s Plant Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Garden in Raleigh has a Spring Open House this weekend and next.  The dates are May 3rd, 4th, 5th and 10th, 11th, 12th.  Here is a link to his website for more details:   http://www.plantdelights.com/OpenHouseDates.asp  If you have never been, plan a road trip with friends.  You will want to share this wonderful experience.

On the way to Tony’s, stop in at the “Garden Sculpture Invitational” exhibit of 12 accomplished artists introducing new garden sculpture in clay, metal, marble and stoneware. It is displayed in a beautiful rural setting at 1902 Borland Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The dates are May 4th, 5th & 11th. Photos & more at http://www.garden-art-gallery.com/

The Guilford County Extension Master Gardeners have their Annual Pass-along Plant Sale starting on Friday, May 10th, 9am – 3pm, and May 11th, 9am – noon. Come at 9am on Friday for the best selection. (It will be crowded!)  Find amazing bargains on Saturday as every plant must go!  The Extension Center is at 3309 Burlington Road, Greensboro, 27405.  Call 375-5876 for more info.

The new Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden in Kernersville is having their annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 18th, 9am – 2pm.  There will be many different plant vendors (including Piedmont Carolina Nursery) plus a 10 am lecture by the highly regarded Dr. Bob Lyons, Professor of Landscape Horticulture, and Program Director for the Longwood Graduate Program in Public Horticulture at the University of Delaware. The Guilford Horticultural Society has their last meeting of the year on Monday, May 20th at 7pm, always in the Natural Science Center, downstairs.  There is no charge to come as a guest (I am inviting you!)  This is their spring Plant Swap Night – bring a plant & take a new one home.  This group of extraordinary gardeners always has extra plants to share.  Here is their website:  http://www.guilfordhorticulturalsociety.org/about-guilford-horticultural-society/  You can join in September – only $25 for 7 months of great speakers!

Greensboro Beautiful holds their annual “Parisian Promenade” at the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden on Sunday, June 2nd, 12-5pm. It is always a beautiful walk in the garden with sidewalk artists, live music, children’s activities & café vendors.  Admission is FREE.  Learn about more events at http://www.greensborobeautiful.org/

There is so much to enjoy – make time for a few of these fun events.  Life is better in a garden.  It is good for your health, great for your attitude and feeds  your soul.  Get out!
